We are looking for a Head Housekeeper to join our hospitality team and own the presentation and cleanliness of every property to the highest luxury standards.

Presentation is everything at Penicuik Estate. Guests take Penicuik House, the estate’s houses and cottages and the event spaces exclusively and at a premium, and they arrive expecting perfection: every room immaculate, every detail considered, nothing overlooked. Unlike a hotel, there is no front desk or restaurant to make up for a room that disappoints. Here the presentation of the properties is the product, and the Head Housekeeper owns that standard.
The role leads housekeeping across a blended model, working in close partnership with the estate’s cleaning contractors, and building the estate’s own team and casual pool alongside them over time. It plans the turnaround of every property around bookings, keeps standards consistently high whether the estate is full or quiet, manages linen, laundry and supplies, and works hand in hand with the House Managers so that guests always arrive to a home that is ready.
This is a hands-on operational role, not a desk-based one. The Head Housekeeper is expected to be in the properties and working alongside the team: cleaning when the day demands it, turning over a cottage, delivering turndowns, and covering front-of-house shifts to support the House Managers when the operation needs it.

The House Manager is the face of the estate on shift and the person who makes a guest’s stay feel effortless. Working as part of a small, close-knit team on a rolling shift pattern, you’ll ensure every property is beautifully prepared before arrival, look after guests throughout their stay, and keep the operation running smoothly across Penicuik House, our cottages and houses, and the estate’s event spaces.
Whether a guest has exclusive use of the estate or is staying in a single cottage, every experience is held to the same exceptional standard.
This is a hands-on, guest-facing role with real responsibility. House Managers uphold standards throughout each shift, support the wider hospitality team, and ensure nothing is overlooked—from the welcome on arrival to the final details before guests depart.
The role is full-time, working a rolling shift pattern that includes evenings and weekends. We offer a competitive salary, dependent on experience.

The role is offered on a casual basis with flexible hours, scheduled around guest arrivals and events, including evenings and weekends.
Part-time applications will also be considered, with a competitive rate of pay depending on experience.
