Heritage Preservation Trust
Preservation at Penicuik began in the 1970s, with the first efforts to restore the landscape’s original vision and spirit. In 1985, Sir John Clerk (10th Baronet) founded the Penicuik House Preservation Trust, responding to the urgent need to protect Old Penicuik House. The Trust’s mission is to safeguard the treasures of this unique landscape, preserving its rare union of architecture and nature to inspire all who encounter it.
While the continual work to Old Penicuik House remains central to the Trust, its commitment extends to the entire Designed Landscape, a living canvas that continues to evolve. The Trust is actively fundraising and planning new projects, including the restoration of Knight’s Law Tower, the Ramsay Monument, and Hurley Cave. Each project adds a new chapter to Penicuik’s story, offering fresh ways for visitors to connect with and appreciate the estate’s rich heritage and enduring creativity.
