Set atop the Cauldshoulders Ridge and marking the end of the views from Old Penicuik House, the Ramsay Monument is an ashlar stone obelisk, pierced by three oval apertures on an arched base. It was built by Sir James (3rd Baronet) to commemorate the poet Allan Ramsay, a close friend of the Clerk family.
